The telescope is the most common optical device, similar in design to a telescope, only in a reduced form. Someone needs it for work, someone takes it on hikes to accurately examine distant objects, someone she is always at hand to even see from the window the beauty of the surrounding world more clearly and in the smallest detail.

The first pipe with a 20-fold increase was created by Galileo at the beginning of the XVII century. It quickly found application in the army and navy and was in service until the end of the 19th century. Today it is used everywhere. It has become a compulsory subject in tourist expeditions, hunting and fishing, a wonderful children's toy that helps to know the world.

How to choose a telescope

Choosing a spyglass is quite difficult. Before reading the rating, we present some tips from experts who will help you make a competent purchase. What we, first of all, pay attention to:

  1. Diameter. For use at home or in the office when installing on a tripod, it is better to take a lens of 80 mm or higher. In such a pipe, the picture will be more voluminous. But the weight and dimensions will not always allow you to take it with you on hikes. Therefore, tourists should buy a device with a diameter of up to 65 mm. Although it has less optical capabilities, in the field, reliability, quality of mechanics and, of course, weight come first.
  2. Optics. Prisms and lenses must be enlightened, otherwise they may glare. You can check this parameter with your sales assistant or see for yourself. Color spraying will tell you that the optics are enlightened. If not, then you will see glass of the usual shade.
  3. Increase. Today you can buy models with different parameters, the most common - from 15 to 100. A small ratio will not give the necessary increase. Too high reduces color reproduction, the image is dull, and in low light the observation will be complicated.
  4. Body. Metal is not only practical and durable. The case of this material allows you to set all the mechanisms with higher accuracy during production. Rubberized models are very comfortable to hold, so this type will be the best option for hiking. The sealed housing protects the optics from moisture. A pipe with a plastic top has a lower weight and costs an order of magnitude lower.
  5. Accessories. The case included in the kit will be a definite plus when buying. It will protect the pipe from rain and snow, prevent damage when falling. The presence of a shoulder strap is also welcome, since then the pipe will always be at hand. A tripod will simplify observation and make the image stable, eliminate vibration.

After examining and comparing the characteristics of the most popular telescopes, the experts selected the best models in the rating, which will allow to obtain a high-quality enlarged image and will last a long time.

1) Type of telescope:

Depending on the type of object of observation, telescopes are divided into 3 types:

Refractors (lens). You are a beginner or an astronomer, or you don’t have any skills at all - this type of telescope is exactly what you need. They allow a good view of terrestrial objects and celestial bodies within our solar system.

Reflectors (Mirror) - For more advanced observers. Ideal for deep space and high-quality images of distant galaxies.

Katadioptrics (mirror-lens). It takes into account the advantages of the two previous types. Suitable for observing distant, as well as for observing nearby astronomical objects. It allows not only to observe the stars, but also to take high-quality pictures.

2) Aperture (lens diameter):

One of the most important criteria for choosing a telescope is the aperture of its lens. It determines the ability of a lens (or mirror) to collect light. The characteristic establishes a direct correlation between the number of reflected rays entering the lens and image quality. At high rates, the telescope allows you to catch the faint reflected radiation of distant space objects.

Recommended aperture parameters (lens diameter):

70-90 mm - to get a clear picture of nearby planets or satellites in a city,

150 mm - to get a clear picture of nearby planets or satellites in "traveling conditions",

Over 200 mm - allows you to see distant galaxies,

Up to 400 mm - semi-professional lenses. Suitable for places remote from the city with a low-light night sky.

3) Focal length:

The focal length is the distance from the lens to the point in the eyepiece, where all the light rays are again collected in a beam. Affects the magnification and quality of the visible image. The higher the indicator, the better the object is visible.

Structurally, the focus increases the length of the telescope itself, which affects the convenience of its storage and transportation. For storage on the balcony, it is more convenient to hold a short-focus device (F does not exceed 500-800 mm). This restriction does not apply only to catadioptrics - in them the luminous flux is repeatedly refracted, and does not go in a straight line, which allows to significantly shorten the body.

4) The magnification:

Calculated by dividing the focal length by the same characteristic of the eyepiece. If the telescope focus is 800 mm, and the eyepiece has 16, then the optics will give a 50-fold approximation. Interchangeable eyepieces allow you to adjust the magnification of objects. Today, manufacturers offer optics with a focus of 4 to 40 mm, as well as Barlow lenses that double the focus of the telescope itself.

The indicator is important for studying nearby cosmic bodies (such as the moon), since it is not so important for observing distant galaxies.

Optics cleaning

Spray, wipes and other products will allow you to clean the lenses and body. Careful care will avoid the characteristic damage and scratches of the pipe for tourism.

A special tripod will help stabilize the image of the pipe for tourism, make it clear and eliminate vibrations. It will help to avoid hand fatigue and “dampen” vibrations.

Pipes for tourism can increase the magnification, clarity and brightness of the image, as well as significantly expand the field of view. The eyepiece allows you to improve the device and connect the camera.
